Tralee is the biggest town in County Kerry, in southwestern Ireland. Located at the head of Tralee Bay, the town has a population of about 23,000 (2011 estimate).
As with most of the towns in Ireland, Tralee was not spared the violence of the Irish War of Independence and the Irish Civil War. However, it has since moved on to a more peaceful era, and has worked to develop its tourism industry. Among the most successful efforts is the Rose of Tralee Festival, held each August to celebrate Irish culture, performing arts and heritage.
Visiting Tralee
The most practical way to reach Tralee is by private transport. There are buses to Tralee from Dublin, Limerick, Killarney and Cork provided by Bus Éireann, the national bus company.
