Abruzzo is a region in central western Italy. It is bordered by Marche to the north, Lazio to the west and Molise to the southeast. Abruzzo has a coastline facing the Adriatic Sea to the east. It covers 10.763 sq km (4,156 sq mi) and a population of 1.35 million people (2012 estimate).

Climate
The Apennine Mountain divides Abruzzo into two climatic regions. The coastal areas experience a Mediterranean climate. Here, summers are hot and dry while winters mild and rainy. Further inland are the mountain ranges which experience cooler climate. The plains and west-facing slopes of the Apennine mountain ranges also experience more rain than the eastern side of the range.

Language
The locals of Abruzzo speak three different dialects of Italian. The Sabine dialect is spoken in L'Aquila. The Abruzzo Adriatic dialect is predominant in the provinces of Teramo, Pescara and Chieti, while the Abruzzo western dialect is often heard in L'Aquila as well.

Tourism
Abruzzo has a wealth of historical and cultural cities. It attracts an increasing number of tourists, mainly domestic tourists but also arrivals from Germany and France.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
