photo licensing Bormio is a town in the province of Sondrio, in the region of Lombardy, in northern Italy. It covers 41 sq km (16 sq mi) and has a population of 4,000 people (2012 estimate). The town is close to the border with Switzerland.

Bormio is 1,225 m (4,019 ft) above sea level and is famous as a skiing destination. It also has thermal springs and spas. The town is in the Valtellina valley washed by the Adda River. Its position has a thermal bath has been known since Roman times, when Roman aristocrats used to visit it for its water.

Although it has developed into a ski resort, Bormio manages to retain its medieval town center. This has also made it a charming tourist destination.

Bormio

Bormio can be reached by taking the A22 expressway from Verona. After Laives, turn off the expressway to the Mebo road. At Foresta, continue on Via Venosta and the route SS38 to reach Bormio.
