Bosa is an Italian town in the province of Oristano, in
Sardinia,
Italy. Located on the west coast of Sardinia, Bosa covers 135.67 sq km (52.38 sq mi) and has a population of 8,100 people (2012 estimate).
Bosa is not exactly on the coast, by about 3 km inland, on the northern bank of the Temo River. It is just 5 m (16 ft) above sea level. The people here depend on farming and fishing for their livelihood.
Bosa has been inhabited since antiquity. It was a municipium under the Romans. The people moved inland for better protection, especially after Malaspina Castle was built. The Malaspina family controlled the area until the 14th century, when it was captured by the Aragon.
Today Bosa is well known for its well-preserved heritage architecture, with houses painted in different colors forming a kaleidoscope of the town.
