Molise is a region facing the Adriatic Sea in southern Italy. Covering 4,438 sq km (1,714 sq mi), it is the second smallest region in the country. Molise has a population of 320,000 people (2012 estimate). Its capital is Campobasso.

Geography of Molise
Molise is bordered by Abruzzo to the north, Lazio to the west, Campania to the south and Apulia to the east. It faces the Adriatic Sea to the northeast.

History of Molise
Molise was created in 1963. Before that, it was part of the region of Abruzzi e Molise which as now been separated into the regions of Abruzzo and Molise.

Molise comprises two provinces namely Isernia and Campobasso.

Economy of Molise
The mainstay of Molise's economy is the building industry. It also has a number of small and medium industries in the food sector, including the manufacture of pasta, milk products and meat products. The region also has a large plant manufacturing Fiat cars.
