Sestiere Santa Croce, Venice

Sestiere Santa Croce is one of the six sestieri or neighborhood of Venice. It is the westernmost neighbourhood of the city. It is bounded by the Grand Canal to the north, across which lies Sestiere Cannaregio. To the east is Sestiere San Polo while to the south Sestiere Dorsoduro.

Sestiere Santa Croce is mostly occupied by Tronchetto, the artificial island that acts as Venice's parking lot. It's the only place in the city that you can see cars and buses.

The Ponte della Libertà is the bridge that connects the roadway from Mestre on the Italian mainland to Tronchetto, the man-made island housing the car parks of Venice. The bridge also connects the railway to the Venezia Santa Lucia Railway Station in neighboring Sestiere Cannaregio.

Tronchetto, also called Isola Nuavo or "new island", houses all the car parks and bus parking bays for visitors who arrive by road. To help visitors move through this massive parking area, the elevated Venice People Mover train began operations in 19 April, 2010. It makes three stops, at Piazzale Tronchetto, Maritima and Piazzale Roma.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
