Historic Centre of Riga, also called Vecriga or Old Riga, is the part of the capital of
Latvia on the east side of the River Daugava. The area is noted for its Jugendstil architecture, with a number of important landmarks such as the Riga Cathedral and the St Peter's Church.
To preserve the heritage buildings in the historic centre of Riga, it was turned into a pedestrianized zone where only its residents vehicles and delivery vehicles are allowed to be in.
Historic Centre of Riga was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 21st session of the World Heritage Committee in Naples, Italy, on 1-6 December, 1997.
