Lisbon District is a district in on the central coast of Portugal. It encompasses the Portuguese national capital, Lisbon. Lisbon District covers 2,800 sq km and has a population of 2.2 million people (2011 estimate). It is bordered by Leiria District to the north, Santarem District to the east and Setúbal District to the south. The Atlantic Ocean forms the coastline to the west. Lisbon District is composed of 16 municipalities and 226 civil parishes.
