Portalegre District is a district in the Alentejo Region in the central western part of Portugal. The district covers 6,065 sq km and has a population of 127,000. It is bordered by Castelo Branco District to the north, Santarem District to the west, Évora District to the south, and Spain to the east. The district capital is also called Portalegre. Portalegre District is composed of 15 municipalities and 86 civil parishes.
