Benalmádena is a town in the province of Málaga, in the southern autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It occupies 27.2 sq km (10.5 sq mi) and has a population of 60,000 people (2012 estimate).

Benalmádena has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. Various ancient peoples including the Phoenicians and Romans have exerted their influence and control here. It was also ruled by the Moors before it passed to Christian Spain.

Today Benalmádena is a reflection of its past and present with the distinct character of its old town, Benalmádena Pueblo, which is like a traditional Spanish village, and its new town, Benalmádena Costa, which is geared towards providing tourism facilities. Also added to the town is Arroyo de la Miel, which was originally a separate village but has become the main residential area of the town.

Benalmádena is home to the Benalmádena Stupa, a 33-meter Tibetan Buddhist stupa that is the largest stupa in Europe. In Arroyo de la Miel is also the only real ice skating rink in the Costa del Sol.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
