Castile and León is an autonomous community in
northwestern Spain. It covers 94,222 sq km (36,379 sq mi) and has a population of 2.5 million people (2012 estimate). This makes it the largest autonomous community in Spain.
Castile and León is bordered by
Galicia and
Asturias to the northwest,
Cantabria to the north, the
Basque Country and
La Rioja to the northeast,
Aragon to the east,
Castile-La Mancha and the
Madrid Community to the southeast,
Extremadura to the south and
Portugal to the west. Indeed it shares borders with the most other autonomous communities in the country.
Today Castile and León has six
World Heritage Sites. It is becomeing an increasingly popular tourist destination.
