Catalonia is an autonomous community on the northeastern part of Spain. It covers 32,114 sq km (12,399 sq mi) and has a population of 7.5 million people (2012 estimate). Although it is only the 6th biggest autonomous community in terms of size, it is also the second most populous after Andalusia. Its capital and biggest city is Barcelona.

Catalonia shares a border with Aragon to the west, Valencia to the south and France and Andorra to the north. It faces the Mediterranean Sea to the east.
