Jaén is a charming city on the central part of the autonomous region of Andalusia, in southern Spain. It covers 424 sq km (164 sq mi) and has a population of 120,000 people (2012 estimate). It has a historic center that has in recent years help it become a popular tourist destination.
Jaén is today a major producer of olive oil. The city has a number of culinary specialities which emphasizes the use of local ingredients. Tapas is popularly eaten here, with many Tapas bars in the city.
Among the tourist attractions in Jaén include the Castillo de Santa Catalina, a fort on the hill overlooking the city. Another important sight is Jaén Cathedral, whose history goes back to 1570.
