Community of Madrid is the autonomous community at the center of Spain that encompasses the city of Madrid. It covers 8,030.1 sq km (3,100.4 sq mi) and has a population of 6.45 million people (2012 estimate), the majority of which within the Madrid metropolitan area. The Community of Madrid is bordered by Castile-La Mancha to the south and east, and by Castile and León to the north and west.
When Spain was reorganized according to autonomous communities based on distinct regional identity, Madrid was originally planned to be part of Castile-La Mancha. However this was opposed by the other provinces within Castile-La Mancha. After much consideration, the province of Madrid was made a separate autonomous community, despite it not having a distinct historical identity, to serve the nation's interest as capital. This came into being in 1983.
The city of Madrid, located within the Community of Madrid, serves as both the national capital as well as the capital of the autonomous community.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
