Hergiswil is a municipality in the canton of Nidwalden,
Switzerland. Located 449 m (1,473 ft) above sea level, it covers 14.31 sq km (5.53 sq mi) and has a population of 5,500 people (2012 estimate).
Much of Hergiswil is forested. The population mostly speak German (91%) followed by Italian (2%). Farming is one of the main occupations here, with close to 30% of the land area used for agriculture.

Hergiswil is located next to the A2 motorway. The nearest major city is
Lucerne to the north.
