Küssnacht am Rigi is a municipality in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. Located 442 m (1,450 ft) above sea level, it covers 29.36 sq km (11.34 sq mi) and has a population of 12,000 people. The municipality is composed of three villages namely Küssnacht, Immensee and Merlischachen.
Küssnacht am Rigi got its name from its located at the foot of the Rigi mountain. It is between Lake of Lucerne to the south and Lake Zug to the northeast. The people here mostly speak German (87.5%) with Albanian and Serbo-Croation being the second most common languages (2.7% each). The majority of the population of Roman Catholics (73.7%) while 10.8% attend the Swiss Reformed Church.
The history of Küssnacht is traced back to AD 840, though it first appeared in writing in a 11th century document, when it was mentioned as
Chussenacho. It was made a district within the canton of Schwyz in 1424.
