Durham Castle and Cathedral are a World Heritage Site in the County Durham, England. Durham Castle, now occupied by University College, Durham, since 1840, was originally built in the 11th century by the Normans to show their power in northern England. It stands on a hill above the River Wear, opposite Durham Cathedral.

Durham Cathedral is the sear of the Anglican Bishop of Durham. The present cathedral was built in AD 1093. It stands across Palace Green from Durham Castle. Its central tower is 66 m (217 ft) tall.
