Berkshire is one of the historic counties of South East England. As it is the location of Windsor Castle, it is recognised as the Royal County of Berkshire.

Berkshire covers 1,262 sq km (487 sq mi) and has a population of 812,000 (2011 estimate). It borders the counties of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Wiltshire and Hampshire. The county town is Reading.
