East Grinstead is a town in Mid Sussex district, on the northeastern corner of
West Sussex, England. It is close to border with
East Sussex,
Surrey and
Kent. Located on the Greenwich Meridian, the town covers 24.43 sq km (9.43 sq mi) and has a population of 24,000 people (2012 estimate).
East Grinstead dates back to at least the Norman period. Its High Street has a number of well-preserved timber-framed houses from the 14th century.

London, take the A23 road until Purley, then continue on the A22 road until you reach East Grinstead.

Places of Interest in East Grinstead
- Ashdown Forest: Open heathland occupying the highest sandy ridge-top of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is where the Winnie-the-Pooh stories are set.
- Chartwell: Principal adult home of Sir Winston Churchill, currently under the administration of the National Trust.
- Hever Castle: Castle in the village of Hever, near Edenbridge, Kent, where Anne Boleyn, the second queen consort of King Henry VIII, spent her early youth.
- Sackville College: Sandstone almshouse dating to 1609. This was where the Christmas carol "Good King Wenceslas" was written by Anglican priest John Mason Neale in the 19th century.
- Standen: Country house belonging to the National Trust with an outstanding collection of arts and crafts movement furnishings and fabrics.
