Essex is a ceremonial county in
East England. It covers 3,670 sq km (1,420 sq mi) between Greater Loncon and the North Sea. It is also bounded by the River Thames to the south, to the west by
Hertfordshire, to the northwest by
Cambridgeshire and to the north by
Suffolk.
The county of Essex comprises fourteen districts, namely Harlow, Epping Forest, Brentwood, Basildon, Castle Point, Rochford, Maldon, Chelmsford, Uttlesford, Braintree, Colchester, Tendring, Thurrock and Southend-on-Sea. Chelmsford is the county town of Essex.
