Hawes is a small market town in Richmondshire district, in
North Yorkshire, England. It has a population of just over a thousand people (2012 estimate).
The River Ure flows through Hawes. The village is at the head of Wensleydate, in the Yorkshire Dales. It is one of the focal points for visits to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Also counted within Hawes is the hamlet of Gayle.
Most visitors come to Hawes for hiking trips, to enjoy the country feel and vistas of the Pennine Way. There are a number of attractions in and around the village, which itself is renowned for its Wensleydale cheese.
Visiting Hawes
Take the A1(M) motorway, which continues as the A1 trunk road to the interchange with the A684 road. Head west on the A684 road until you reach Hawes.

Places of Interest in Hawes
- Aysgarth Falls: A three-tier waterfall on the River Ure.
- Dales Countryside Museum: Local museum occupying the former Hawes Railway Station. It displays items related to the Dales, as well as the old stream train and carriages that were formerly used by the Wensleydale Railway.
- Yorkshire Dales National Park: National park covering the upland area in Northern England.
