Henley-in-Arden is a small town in Stratford-upon-Avon district, in Warwickshire, England. Simply known as Henley, the town has a well-preserved old town with buildings from a number of architectural styles. The fact that it is located in the formerly forested area called Forest of Arden is noted in its name. The town today has a population of around 2,000 people (2012 estimate).
Henley-in-Arden is about nine miles west of Warwick and also 9 miles north of Stratford upon Avon. It lies in the valley of the River Alne, at the start point of the circular Arden Way path, within the Heart of England Way.
Henley-in-Arden was probably established after the Norman Conquest. It was not mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. It appeared for the first time in writing during the reign of King Henry II. In the 11th century, the motte-and-bailey Beaudesert Castle was built. Henley-in-Arden was granted a market charter in 1140 by Empress Matilda. The weekly Monday market and two-day annual fair helped to generate an income for the town until 1265, when the Second Barons' War brought an abrupt end to prosperity.

Another round of calamity fell on Henley-in-Arden during the English Civil War, when soldiers of the Royalist forces under Price Rupert pillaged the town as they passed through it in 1643.
Today Henley-in-Arden is a quiet English town with several timber-framed houses along its High Street. A number of historic buildings and churches from the medieval age are still standing, as is its market cross.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
