East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
The history of Howden goes back to AD 959, when it was recorded that King Edgar offered Howden Manor to his wife Ethelfleda. Following Norman Conquest, William the Conqueror gave Howden to the Bishop of Durham in 1080, but kept Howden Manor for himself.

Construction work on Howden Minster began in 1228, and continued off and on till the 15th century. During this period the town grew into a pilgrimage center following alleged miracles performed by John of Howden in the 13th century. Howden Minster fell into ruins following the Dissolution of the Collegiate churches by King Henry VIII in 1548. The English Civil War caused it greater damage.
