Kenilworth is a town in Warwick district, in
Warwickshire, England. It is about 6 km to the north of
Warwick. The town has a population of 23,000 people (2012 estimate).
The history of Kenilworth goes back to at least the Norman period of British history. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appeared as Chinewrde. Anglo-Norman nobleman Geoffrey de Clinton was instrumental in constructing an Augustinian priory in Kenilworth, along with Kenilworth Castle, both arouond 1122. He also created a deer park near the town.
The railway line was connected to Kenilworth in 1844 with services between
Coventry and
Leamington Spa. This brought a spur of development to town.
Today Kenilworth serves as a dormitory town to people working in Coventry,
Birmingham and Leamington Spa. The main shopping area is around Talisman Square.

Visiting Kenilworth
Take the M40 motorway from London to Junction 15, then head north on the A46 road till interchange with the A452 road. Head west on the A452 road to reach Kenilworth.
Places of Interest in Kenilworth
- Abbey Fields: Public park where the ruins of Kenilworth Abbey is located.
- Kenilworth Abbey: Also called St Mary's Abbey, this is the Augustinian priory built in 1124 by Geoffrey de Clinton.
- Kenilworth Castle: Castle built by Geoffrey de Clinton in 1122. It is today in a state of ruin.
- Kenilworth Water Tower: A former windmill used to grind corn for the townsfolk, it was built in 1778.
- St John's Church: The second Anglican parish church in Kenilworth, built in 1852 in the Gothic Revival style.
- St Nicholas' Church: Anglican parish church reflecting a fine example of English parish church in the Perpendicular style with Tudor alterations. The land dates from the 12th century.
