Balham Station (GPS: 51.44341, -0.15282) is a station of the London Underground in Balham, in the
London Borough of Wandsworth. It is adjacent to the Balham Railway Station of the National Rail. The station is located on Balham High Road (A24) in the boundary of Travelcard Zones 2 and 3.
The Balham Tube Station is served by the
Northern Line between the
Clapham South Tube Station (heading towards
Edgware,
Mill Hill East or
High Barnet) and
Tooting Bec Tube Station (heading towards
Morden). The station began operations in 1926 for the City & South London Railway, the precursor of the Northern Line. It was used as a civilian air raid shelter during the Second World War. A bomb dropped above the station caused a partial collapse that killed over sixty people sheltering in the station.
