London Basketball Arena, London Olympics 2012

London Basketball Arena is the main venue of the basketball event during the 2012 London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. It is located in Poplar, in East London. It has a seating capacity of 12,000 spectators during the Olympic Games and 10,000 spectators during the Paralympic Games. Events to be held there include basketball and the semi-finals and finals of handball during the Olympics and wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby during the Paralympics.

During the planning of the London Olympic Games, it was reported in 2008 that basketball could be played at Wembley Area, and that the Basketball Arena does not have to be built at all. Doing that will save as much as £90 million. Nevertheless, in March 2009, construction of the new arena was confirmed, and the area was completed in June, 2011. It will not be a permanent feature of the London Olympic Park. After the Games, the arena will be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
