Blackfriars Railway Bridge, London

Blackfriars Railway Bridge is a bridge across the River Thames in London. This arch bridge was built in 1886. It is however the second bridge to take this name, as the first Blackfriars Railway Bridge, located next to it, was erected in 1864, but has been partly demolished today. What you can see of the first bridge are just the pillars standing in the river today.

The present Blackfriars Railway Bridge is located between the Blackfriars Bridge and the Millennium Bridge. Originally called the St Paul's Railway Bridge, it was designed by John Wolfe-Barry and Henry Marc Brunel. (Another different account said it was designed by W. Mills).

On the north side of the Blackfriars Railway Bridge is the Blackfriars Station, which was formerly known as St Paul's Station until 1937.

How to reach Blackfriars Railway Bridge

The nearest station of the London Underground to the Blackfriars Railway Bridge is Southwark Tube Station, served by the Jubilee Line. From the station, walk north along Blackfriars Road and you will see the bridge to the right of Blackfriars Bridge, when you reach the Thames.
