The Docklands Light Railway Line is a light rail system that is operated to serve the Docklands area of London. It started operations on 31 August, 1987 to provide improved public transportation to the Docklands area which was undergoing office, commercial and residential development.

The Docklands Light Railway service covers 31 km (19 miles) and comprises 40 station. Annual passenger traffic now reaches 70 million every year. The lines are mostly elevated and has five branches, reaching south to Lewisham, north to Stratford, east to Beckton and Woolwich Arsenal, and west to the City of London.
