Handball Arena is one of the five main components of the London Olympic Park, the venue of the 2012 London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. Unlike the other venues of the Games, the Handball Arena has a plain design. It will have a seating capacity of 6,000 to 7,000 spectators.
In addition to handball, the arena will also be used for modern pentathlon fencing and shooting during the Olympic Games and for goalball during the Paralympic Games.
After the Games are over, the Handball Arena will be renovated so that it can be used by the public as a multi-sport arena. Athletes will also be able to use it for training and for small to medium scale sporting events.
The Handball Arena is the only permanent indoor area from the original masterplan that was retained in the Olympic Park. The revised masterplan published in 2006 moved volleyball event to
Earls Court Exhibition Centre. The Basketball Arena, while presently sited within the Olympic Park, will be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere in the United Kingdom after the Games.
