Northfields Station (GPS: 51.49934, -0.31411) is a station of the London Underground in Northfields, in the
London Borough of Ealing. It is in Travelcard Zone 3, along Northfield Avenue, with the railway tracks running under the overpass.
Northfields Tube Station is served by the Heathrow branch of the
Piccadilly Line between
South Ealing Tube Station (heading towards
Cockfosters Tube Station) and
Boston Manor Tube Station (heading towards
Heathrow Airport Terminals 4 or
5).
As with the other stations on the Heathrow branch line, the Northfields Tube Station started operating in 1908 for the Metropolitan District Railway, which is today known as the District Line. The railway tracks however dates from as early as 1883.
The Northfields Tube station was originally called Northfields Halt (a "halt" since it was just a basic shelter then). It was renamed to Northfields and Little Ealing station in 1911, when the halt was upgraded to a proper station. Then in 1932, to prepare it for the commencement of services by the Piccadilly Line, a new station building was built, and when completed, the station was renamed again, to its present name.
