Wimbledon Tube Station


Wimbledon Station (GPS: 51.42132, -0.20652) is a station of the London Underground in Wimbledon, in the London Borough of Merton. It is part of the railway station of the National Rail. The station serves as a terminus for the District Line after the Wimbledon Park Tube Station. It is in Travelcard Zone 3.

As a National Rail station, the Wimbledon Station is also served by South West Trains between Earlsfield Station and Raynes Park Station or Surbiton Station, and First Capital Connect trins between Haydons Road Station and Wimbledon Chase Station. The station is also a terminus for the Tramlink Route 3 after the Dundonald Road Tram Stop. The Wimbledon Station is the only interchange for the Tramlink with the London Underground.

The Wimbledon railway station began operations in 1838 for the London and South Western Railway. The Metropolitan District Railway, percursor to today's District Line, began serving this station in 1889. Initially using steam trains, the District Line began using electrified trains on this line in 1905.
