Barking is a town within the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It is located about 14.6 km (9.1 miles) to the east of Charing Cross. The town centre of Barking are at Barking Town Centre and Barking Riverside.
The town of Barking is said to have been named after an asylum that used to be located there, next to Barking Abbey. It is believed to be the town from which the term "barking mad" originated.

The A13 road is the main highway to Barking. Barking Station is also served by the London Underground, London Overground and National Rail.
