Brunei Gallery (GPS: 51.52188, -0.12863) is a gallery located on Thornhaugh Street in Russell Square, within the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), a component of the University of London. The gallery was founded through an endowment received from the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam. It was offically opened by Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, who is the Chancellor of the university, on 22 November, 1995.
The Brunei Gallery stages temporary exhibitions drawn from the School's collection, Objects of Instruction: Treasures of the School of Oriental and African Studies. Among the exhibitions held include "A Disappearing World", showcasing the photography of Robert Wallis and artwork from the women artists from Jharkhand in north central India.
How to reach Brunei Gallery
The Brunei Gallery is part of Museum Mile on Russell Square, across from the main entrance to the School of Oriental and African Studies and a stone's throw from the British Museum. To get there, take the Piccadilly Line to the Russell Square Tube Station and walk a short distance from there.
The Brunei Gallery is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm. It is closed on Sundays, Mondays and Bank Holidays. Admission is free.
