Cabinet War Rooms, London

Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms is a museum preserving the offices of key ministers during the Second World War. Also known as the Churchill War Rooms, it is one of the five branches of the Imperial War Museum.

The Cabinet War Rooms are an underground complex that served as the British government command centre. It is located beneath the Treasury building in the Whitehall area of Westminster. This was where the ministers made strategic decisions.

Today visitors can view the Cabinet War Rooms as they were laid out when the war ended. The furnishing was as exact as it was possible to preserve. Churchill's desk and communications equipment, along with the maps where he plotted the military strategy, can be viewed.

The Cabinet War Room was built in 1938 and became operational in August 1939, just before the outbreak of the war in Europe. They were in used until August 1945, with the surrender of Japan.
