In addition to the subway services, Farringdon Railway Station is also served by trains of the National Rail. The First Capital Connect Line passes this station between St Pancras International and City Thameslink railway stations.

Farringdon Tube Station dates back to 10 January 1863 when it opened as the original terminus station of the Metropolitan Railway, the oldest subway station in the world. It was originally called the Farringdon Street Station, but was relocated on 23 December 1865. On 26 January 1922, it was renamed Farringdon and High Holborn Station, and held that name until 21 April, 1936, when it was given its present name. The building in which it is located still bears the name "Farringdon & High Holborn Station" and "Metropolitan Railway".

Although presently it is one of the lower traffic railway stations in Central London, this is about to change when the Thameslink Programme and Crossrail, two massive transport infrastructure project presently underway in London, are completed in 2016 and 2018. These projects will make Farringdon one of the busiest railway stations in London, with extended platforms to take longer trains.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
