Hammersmith, London

Hammersmith is the town centre of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. It is on the western part of Inner London, on the northern bank of the River Thames.

Hammersmith is a major commercial part of London and home to many multinational companies. The neighbourhood of Hammersmith is bordered by Shepherds Bush to the north, Fulham to the south, West Kensington to the east and Chiswick to the west. The Hammersmith Bridge provides the connect across the Thames with the neighbourhood of Barnes in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Today Hammersmith is the London headquarters of such multinationals as Bechtel, Coca-Cola, Disney, Pokemon, L'Oréal, Sony Ericsson, Universal Music Group, AOL UK, and US Airways, among others. There are two hospitals of the National Health Service in Hammersmith, namely the Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital.

Hammersmith is also a renowned entertainment district. Among the entertainment venues here include the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, Hammersmith Apollo Concert Hall, The Dove riverside pub and Riverside Studios.

How to reach Hammersmith

The name Hammersmith Tube Station refers to two separate stations of the London Underground in the Hammersmith neighbourhood. One serves the District Line between Barons Court Tube Station and Ravenscourt Tube station, and the Piccadilly Line between the Barons Court Tube Station and Acton Town Tube Station, while the other serves as the terminus of the Hammersmith & City Line preceded by the Goldhawk Road Tube Station.
