Harrow & Wealdstone Station, London

Harrow & Wealdstone Station (GPS: 51.5922, -0.33462) is presently the terminus of the Bakerloo Line of the London Underground. The station before it is the Kenton Tube Station. It is located in the London Borough of Harrow and is owned by Network Rail. The station is also served by trains of the London Overground, London Midland by the Southern Railway.

The Harrow & Wealdstone Tube Station is located near the overpass for the A409 Road. It is approached from Sandridge Close from the west side, where there are more parking space, and another entrance on the east side, off Masons Avenue. The east entrance has a small clock tower. An overhead footbridge connects the two entrances to the platforms. The station began operating in 1837 as the Harrow Station for the London and Birmingham Railway. The Bakerloo Line was extended to this station on 16 April, 1917.

On 8 October, 1952, a train crash happened at the station killing 112 people and injuring hundreds more. It happened when a Scottish express train heading south crashed into the back of a local train that was on platform 4. Moments later, another train heading north crashed into the wreckage.

Extension of Services to Watford Junction
The Bakerloo Line is expected to be extended to Watford Junction Station. This follows a decision made in February, 2006. However commuters might not see this happening before 2025, when new carriages for the Bakerloo Line is ready. Until then, the stretch will be served by the London Overground trains.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
