Hounslow West Tube Station is the second last station before the train enters Heathrow Airport. It was completed in 1884 and was originally called Hounslow Barracks, after the Cavalry Barracks on Beavers Lane. It was at that time a terminus station. The tracks underwent electrification in 1903. Houslow West Tube Station was given its present name in 1925, at the same time as the renaming of the now Hounslow Central and Hounslow East tube stations.
Extension of the line towards Heathrow Airport began in the early 1970's. In order to reach the airport without necessitating the demolition of many existing houses, the line was realigned slightly, to follow Bath Road and Great South West Road, and was built using cut and cover. The new extension was completed and began operations in 1975.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
