The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is a borough of Greater London located on the southwestern part of Outer London. It covers 57.41 sq km (22.2 sq mi) and has a population of 180,000 (2011 estimate), of which White British accounts for 76%.
The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is bordered by the London Borough of Hounslow to the north, part of which across the River Thames, the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham to the northeast, the London Borough of Wandsworth to the east, and the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames to the south.

Richmond got its name from King Henry VII, who named his palace after Richmond Castle in Richmond, North Yorkshire. The town gave its name to Richmond, Virginia, in the United States.
This borough has a good number of green spaces, the famous ones including Kew Gardens, Richmond Park and Bushy Park. About 140 hectares of this borough are within the Metropolitan Green Belt.
