The
Statue of the Duke of Devonshire is located at the junction of Whitehall with Horse Guards Avenue. It is the statue of Spencer Compton Cavendish, the 8th Duke of Devonshire (1833-1908), a British statesman who declined the opportunity to be Prime Minister three times.
The statue of the Duke of Devonshire at Whitehall is one of two statues to him. Both were erected in 1910, two years after his passing. The other statue is at Carpet Gardens in Eastbourne, in East Sussex.
