Maidstone is the county town of Kent, England. Located on the River Medway, it is within the borough of Maidstone, which has a population of around 80,000 people (2012 estimate).
Evidence of human presence shows that the area around Maidstone has been inhabited since the Stone Age. The Romans also left their mark in the area, as evidenced in the remains of a Roman settlement and villas. Maidstone received its first town charter in 1549. It was then briefly revoked and reissued in 1551, when it was created as a borough.
Due to its location on the River Medway, Maidstone developed as the main town for the surrounding region. During the 18th century a number of industries were established here including paper milling and stone quarrying.
Today Maidstone is a modern town. It ranks as one of the top five shopping centers in South East England. Among the major shopping malls in town includes The Mall Maidstone and Fremlin Walk.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
