Market Weighton is a small town in the
East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is in the East Yorkshire Wolds, about midway between
Hull and
York. The town has a population of around 5,200 people (2012 estimate).
The history of Market Weighton goes back at the least to the 11th century, as it appeared in the Domesday Book of 1086, albeit listed as Wicstun. It was granted is market charter in 1251.
Market Weighton was home to William Bradley (1787-1820), better known as the Yorkshire Giant, who at 7 feet 9 inches, was the tallest recorded British man.

Visiting Market Weighton
Take the A1(M) motorway until Exit 47, then continue east on the A59 to
York. From York, continue east on the A1079 (Hull Road) until you reach
Market Weighton.
