The University of Oxford, often written casually as Oxon, is the oldest university in the English-speaking world. It is located in the city of Oxford, England, about 90km from London. University of Oxford is regarded as one of the world's leading academic institutions.
The University of Oxford was founded some time around the end of the 11th century, although the exact date has been lost to time. What is known is that a dispute between the students of the university and the townsfolk of Oxford happened in 1209, resulting in the academics of Oxford fleeing northeast to the town of Cambridge, to found the University of Cambridge there. The rivalry between these two universities can be traced back this long.
The formal head of the University of Oxford goes by the title of Chancellor. It is a figurehead role and not someone involved with the everyday running of the university. The Chancellor is elected by the Convocation, that is the body comprising all graduates of the university, and holds office until death. The de facto head of the university is the Vice Chancellor.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
