Princes Risborough is a small town in
Buckinghamshire, England. Lying at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, it has a population of around 8,000 people (2012 estimate). Overlooking the town is the Whiteleaf Cross.
The history of Princes Risborough goes back to at least the 11th century. It was part of the Hundred of Risborough, which includes a number of other villages such as Bledlow, Horsenden and Monks Risborough.
When the Domesday Book survey of 1086, Risborough was a royal manor. By the 13th century, it became known as Magna (Great) Risborough, to distinguish it from Parva (Little) Risberge. When it came under the ownership of Edward, Prince of Wales, Magna Bisborough became known as Princes Risborough (while Parva Risberge became Monk Risborough).
