Sherborne is a market town in northwestern
Dorset, England. It is located on the River Yeo in the district of West Dorset, on the edge of the Blackmore Vale. The town has many historic buildings that are well preserved. It has a population of around 10,000 people (2012 estimate).
The history of Sherborne goes back to the Saxon period. Its name is Saxon for "clear stream", and the town was listed as such (scir burne) in the Domesday Book of 1086. Under the Saxons, Sherborne was made capital of the Kingdom of Wessex.

From
London, take the M3 motorway until Exit 18, and then continue west on the A303 road until Andover. There, continue on the A343 road heading southwest towards
Salisbury. The A343 then merges with the A30. After Salisbury, continue west on the A30 until arriving in Shaftesbury.

Places of Interest in Sherborne
- Abbey Church of St Mary the Virgin: Popularly called Sherborne Abbey, this is a Saxon cathedral from AD705 to 1075 and a Benedictine abbey from 998 to 1538, and today a parish church.
- Almshouses of Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist: House for poor people who could not afford to pay rent.
- Sherborne Castle: 16th century Tudor mansion to the southeast of Sherborne.
- Sherborne House: Historic building and former country house that has been converted into a school. It is a Grade I listed building.
- The Conduit: Historic water channel in Sherborne.
