South Yorkshire is a metropolitan county in the region of Yorkshire and the Humber in north-central England. It covers 1,552 sq km (599 sq mi) and has a population of 1.3 million people (2012 estimate).
South Yorkshire is a landlocked county on the east side of the Pennines. It is bordered by West Yorkshire to the northwest, North Yorkshire to the north, East Riding of Yorkshire to the northeast, Lincolnshire to the east, Nottinghamshire to the southeast and Derbyshire to the southwest. The main city in the area is Sheffield, which is also the ninth most populous conurbation in the United Kingdom.
South Yorkshire exists as a geographic frame of reference, as its county council was abolished in 1986, with administrative authorities passing to the metropolitan boroughs, which effectively became unitary authority areas. Human habitation in this area goes back to at least 12,800 years ago, based on artifacts and rock art in the caves at Creswell Crags. There is also a Mesolithic adobe in the form of a circle of stone dating to 8000 BC near Deepcar in northern Sheffield.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
