Stratford-upon-Avon is a market town in Warwickshire, England. The town is best known as the birthplace of playwright William Shakespeare, and for that fact alone, receives 3 million visitors every year.
Stratford-upon-Avon has a population of 26,000 people (2012 estimate). As its name suggests, it is located on the River Avon. The nearest major city is Birmingham, located 35 km (22 mi) to the northwest.
The history of Stratford goes back to 1196, when it received its town charter. Today it derives its income mainly from tourism, particularly in the hospitality industry. Due to the continuous stream of tourists, it has a well developed tourism infrastructure, with hotels, restaurants and tourist sights.

Visiting Stratford-upon-Avon
There are trains from London Marylebone station to Stratford-upon-Avon. Journey ntakes about two and a half hours. Trains also connect it with Birmingham and Warwick.To reach Stratford-upon-Avon by car, take the M40 motorway to Junction 15, then continue southwest on A46, followed by the A439 road until you arrive in town.

- Anne Hathaway's Cottage: Former childhood home of Anne Hathaway (1555/6-1623), the wife of William Shakespeare.
- Hall's Croft: House that once belonged to William Shakespeare's daughter Susanna and her husband Dr John Hall.
- Nash's House: House located next to New Place, the final residence of William Shakespeare, today converted into a museum.
- New Place: The final place of residence for William Shakespeare in town. He3 died there in 1616.
- Royal Shakespeare Theatre: 1040-seat theatre dedicated to William Shakespeare, located beside the River Avon.
- Shakespeare's Birthplace: Half-timbered house on Henley Street where William Shakespeare was born in 1564.
- Swan Theatre: Theatre belonging to the Royal Shakespeare Company, located next to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
