Tetbury is a small town in Cotswold district, on the southern part of
Gloucestershire, England. Located in a terrain comprising gently rolling hills, Tetbury has a population of around 5,000 people (2012 estimate).
Human habitation in the Tetbury area goes back to ancient times, based on the existence of a prehistoric hill fort in the area. The town itself traces its history to the founding of a monastery during Anglo-Saxon period.
In the Middle Ages, Tetbury became a center for the wool and yarn. Some of the festivals held in the town, such as Woolsack Day, dates to the time when the town was an important wool trading center.
Today Tetbury has a charming, well-preserved old town center, with many hisotric buildings. Among them is the Market House dating to 1655 and the Anglican parish church of St Mary the Virgin, built in the late 18th century.
