Tetbury is a small town in Cotswold district, on the southern part of Gloucestershire, England. Located in a terrain comprising gently rolling hills, Tetbury has a population of around 5,000 people (2012 estimate).
Human habitation in the Tetbury area goes back to ancient times, based on the existence of a prehistoric hill fort in the area. The town itself traces its history to the founding of a monastery during Anglo-Saxon period.
In the Middle Ages, Tetbury became a center for the wool and yarn. Some of the festivals held in the town, such as Woolsack Day, dates to the time when the town was an important wool trading center.
Today Tetbury has a charming, well-preserved old town center, with many hisotric buildings. Among them is the Market House dating to 1655 and the Anglican parish church of St Mary the Virgin, built in the late 18th century.
Take the M4 motorway until Exit 18, then continue north on the A48 road until junction with the A433 road. Continue northeast on the A433 till arriving in Tetbury.
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
