Uckfield is a town in the district of Wealden, in
East Sussex, England. It is located on the River Uck, which flows into the River Ouse. The town has a population of 14,000 people (2012 estimate).
Uckfield dates back to the late 13th century, when a bridge was built across the River Ult, and in time, a settlement developed at the bridging point. In the old days, Uckfield was a village that served as a stopover for travelers between Canterbury, Chichester and Lewes.
A chapel was built in Uckfield in 1291. Church Street, one of the oldest streets in town, developed from around here. It today has a large concentration of post-medieval buildings.
