Uppingham is a small market town on the southern part of
Rutland, England. It has a population of around 4,000 people (2012 estimate).
Much of Uppingham developed after the Norman Conquest. Thus is was not listed in the Domesday Book of 1086. Its parish church, the Church of St Peter and St Paul, dates to the 14th century. The village took advantage of its location near the Forest of Leighfield to be a producer of wood products, particularly wooden tableware.
Uppingham was granted a market charter in 1281. During the Middle Ages, the market square was a place were cock-fighting and other sports often take place. Today Uppingham is a quiet English town. The town center has the usual selection of shops, pubs and tea rooms.

London, take the A1 trunk toad until the interchange with the A47 road. Head west on the A47 until you reach Uppingham.
